Floating Museum

La Gacela and the Estrella Polar, two wooden fishing boats built in the second half of the 20th century, form the extension into the water of the Fishing Museum in Palamós. Today, they are the only, floating and visitable wooden boats, with these characteristics across the whole Mediterranean.

Renowned in Catalonia in the fields of fishing and its history, the dissemination work undertaken by the Fishing Museum (Palamós) is based on the recovery, conservation and study of the maritime and fishing heritage.

Among its most unique elements, the most outstanding elements include boats, essential instruments for fishing and models which show how the fishing industry has developed over the years.

As a way of appreciating the fishing boats, a paradigm of our maritime heritage, Palamós has opted for extending of the museum into the water, its natural environment, and placing a floating museum there: the Fishing Boats.

One can enjoy a sensory, fun, educational and cultural experience on board the Fishing Boats, a space where you can learn about the development of fishing in Catalonia and reflect on the future challenges of the fishing sector.

The project "Execution of the project for the museumisation of two boats in the port of Palamós (for the dissemination and diffusion of fishing culture and heritage)" is a project financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF).
The Fish Boats incorporate accessibility measures to facilitate and enrich the visit for groups with visual and hearing impairments.
